Identafi 3000 Only Device Using "Multispectral" Tech To Improve Oral Lesion Evaluation, Detect Oral Cancer – Two Texas Scientists Deliver NIH Paper About Identafi 3000's One-of-a-Kind Combination of White, Violet, Green-Amber Light

BETHESDA, Oct. 19, 2009 — Trimira® LLC's Identafi® 3000, a new "multispectral" system for improved oral lesion evaluation, was the subject — and title — of a paper presented by two distinguished Houston research-scientists at the "Inter-Institute Workshop on Optical Diagnostic and Biophotonic Methods from Bench to Bedside" held October 1-2 at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Md.

The NIH workshop brought together experts in the diagnosis and treatment of several important health issues. The format included talks by leading experts in the biophotonic field, as well as panels of experts addressing the needs for fast cures and overcoming barriers to translational medicine. The NIH workshop was sponsored by SPIE (http://spie.org), an international society advancing light-based research.

The presenters of Identafi® 3000 paper NIH01-84 were Dr. Andrés F. Zuluaga, VP, Research & Development of Remicalm® LLC, the parent of Trimira® LLC, and Remicalm®/Trimira® senior scientist Dr. Robert Kelley Bradley, a former Dr. Smalley (Nobel Prize, Chemistry) student and former NASA scientist.

Identafi Is Only Device to Use "Multispectral" Technology

Identafi® 3000 is the only device on the market that illuminates with three wavelengths of brilliant white, violet, and green-amber light. The abstract of the NIH paper on the SPIE website explains that the Identafi® 3000 system "provides a unique combination of white, violet, and amber illumination modalities which enable a caregiver to quickly and conveniently perform a conventional oral examination, combined with an auto-fluorescence and reflectance-based cancer screening." Zuluaga and Bradley delivered a comprehensive clinical, educational and dissemination plan to validate the use of the Identafi® 3000 as an oral cavity screening tool, and show initial results.

Zuluaga helped develop the breakthrough optical system for cancer early detection called "multispectral" spectroscopy. Created exclusively for intraoral use, the new cordless Identafi® 3000 ultra unit is lightweight, portable, and ergonomically shaped for dentists, periodontists, oral surgeons, otolaryngologists, and primary-care physicians.

Identafi® 3000 ultra's patented technology minimizes false positives and reveals abnormalities in oral tissue missed by the naked eye. Unlike other methods, Identafi® 3000 ultra empowers doctors and dentists to pinpoint biochemical and morphological changes in cells. It represents a quantum leap in the visualization of oral cancer or premalignant dysplasia. The multispectral technology not only is effective in screening oral cancers but also in diagnosing cervical, skin, gastrointestinal, and bladder cancers.

    About Trimira LLC

Trimira® LLC is venture capital-funded by Dallas cancer research philanthropist T. Boone Pickens, of oil and windfarming fame. Other Trimira® LLC sister subsidiaries are working on screening and diagnostic devices for skin, cervical, gastrointestinal, and bladder cancers. Remicalm® LLC, as the parent company, has licensed exclusive use of certain of its patents and patents pending for use as a cervical cancer product to be later expanded to include additional epithelial-based cancers. Remicalm® LLC's core technologies are based on high-speed, high-resolution capabilities from its patented optical processing technology platforms and include the ability to read metabolic and physiologic differences in diseased and healthy tissue in the human body.
